Samsung's Galaxy Camera is heading to AT&T on Friday.
The 4G-connected camera, which combines high-performance photography with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and AT&T's mobile Internet, will go on sale Nov. 16 for $499.99.
Data plans range from $10 per month to $50, depending on the amount of storage (250MB to 20GB).
A point-and-shoot camera with an intuitive user interface, the Galaxy Camera can also access Android applications from the Google Play store.
"By connecting the Samsung Galaxy Camera through the AT&T wireless network, users can instantly share photos, giving family and friends a glimpse into their favorite holiday moments," Chris Penrose, AT&T Emerging Devices senior vice president, said in a statement.
The camera is what AT&T calls "a perfect fit" for shutterbugs who want to shoot, edit, and share photos and video through social networks, without the hassle of connecting a device to a laptop or PC. Featuring a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD screen, the camera boasts a 21x optical zoom lens and a super-bright 16-megapixel rear illuminated CMOS sensor, for shooting high-quality images close up and in low lighting.
Meanwhile, the device runs on a quad-core, 1.4-GHz processor, and provides manual control of the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO through Expert Mode. Smart Mode, on the other hand, provides amateurs with pro tools like Rich Tone HDR mode, Light Trace, and Best Face and Best Photo, to help users pick the best shot.
AT&T announced in early October its availability of the touch-screen camera, but provided no pricing details at the time. The device was first announced at August's IFA trade show in Berlin.
Beyond photography capabilities, the camera can share images to social networks and cloud services, a well as transfer photos and videos between the Galaxy Camera and other Galaxy devices, including the S III, Note II, and Tab 2 10.1. Buyers will also have access to AT&T Locker, a free sharing service for the provider's customers.
For a limited time, shoppers buying an AT&T smartphone can get $100 off a second Samsung-connected device, including the Galaxy Camera. The service provider also announced last week a seasonal offer of $100 off any tablet purchased at a brick-and-mortar or online AT&T store.
