Nokia Lumia shows off new camera tricks
Nokia revealed new Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8. The Lumia 920 comes in red and yellow and the camera has "floating lens" technology, meaning it helps stabilize shaky movements and allows the shutter to stay open longer for more light to enter. It also has photo editing tools that remove someone walking by your picture, or you can animate part of a still photo as a cinemagraph. (Check out these examples.) It also has a charging station, so it doesn't need cords. The JBL Power Up Bluetooth wireless speaker system is just one of several colorful accessories Nokia showed.
Following up on Tuesday's story, the FBI has said there is no evidence that the AntiSec group hacked into a FBI laptop or that the FBI had the Apple device ID data. But CNET has verified the numbers posted online are real device serial numbers, so the question remains on how hackers got Apple user data. On Wednesday afternoon, Apple said it did not give the FBI or "any organization" device IDs, and released this statement to AllThingsD:
"The FBI has not requested this information from Apple, nor have we provided it to the FBI or any organization. Additionally, with iOS 6 we introduced a new set of APIs meant to replace the use of the UDID and will soon be banning the use of UDID."
Also new from Nokia is a free music streaming app for U.S. Lumia owners. It launched with 150 programed playlists, and users can also create custom playlists, listen offline and track down local concerts with Gig Finder.
RadioShack is offering more contract-free phones. New options on Cricket Wireless include a Huawei Android phone for $150, and plans start at $50 a month.
If a Kickstarter project fails, ever wonder what happens to the donations? The crowd-funding service addressed the concern in a blog post, saying that the project creators are legally required to give refunds if they can't fulfill the promise of their project.
