Black iPad Mini Sells Out During Pre-Orders - PC Magazine

Apple iPad Mini

Apple's initial launch day stock of the white iPad mini was exhausted just hours after the device became available for pre-order, and now the black model is sold out as well.

As of Monday, the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants of the iPad mini in black and slate as well as white and silver are sold out. Shipping times for all Wi-Fi-only iPad mini models have been pushed back from the expected launch day this Friday, Nov. 2.

Pre-orders for the iPad mini placed now through the U.S. online Apple Store are scheduled to ship in two weeks.

The Cupertino, Calif. tech giant began accepting pre-orders for the iPad mini on its website early Friday morning. Hours later, the white and silver model sold out. The black and slate variant held out for a while longer, but started selling out on Saturday, starting with the 16GB model, according to Apple-focused blog MacRumors.

Meanwhile, cellular-capable models in both color options are slated to ship in mid-November.

Those who really want a white iPad mini on launch day can, of course, go to a physical Apple store and brave the line.

Apple last week unveiled the much-rumored iPad mini, which has a 7.9-inch screen with a 1,024-by-768 display. The iPad mini comes in at 7.5mm thin and 0.68 pounds, 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter than its 9.7-inch counterpart. "It's as thin as a pencil," Apple's Phil Schiller said.

The device is available in sizes of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB and two color options: black and slate or white and silver. Pricing starts at $329 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version. The 32GB Wi-Fi is $429, while the 64GB will be $529. The Wi-Fi plus cellular versions will be $459 (16GB), $559 (32GB), and $659 (64GB).

The iPad mini runs a dual-core A5 processor from Apple. It supports FaceTime HD and features and 5-megapixel iSight camera. There's LTE connectivity, as well as 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. Apple promised 10 hours of battery life. It includes the new Lightning connector found on the iPhone 5.
